Saturday 31 December picks (New Year's Eve)

Good morning everyone!
Are you ready to end the year?

WoW, Opening Day was amazing! Almost 45,000 showed up that day to have fun at the Great Race Place after Xmas. Parking lots were full, betting windows too and horses looking wonderful as ever. It was great to see so alive the track again, such a cool feeling it didn't happened for a loooong time, since 1994 to be more exactly.

The four stakes races were won by ISMENE (Mike Smith), GOT EVEN (Garrett Gomez),  MR> COMMONS and THE FACTOR (Martin Garcia)... and tofday there arte two stakes races, the Eddie Logan and La Brea.

Here are your last 2011 picks to win:

Race 1:  AMELIA ROSE, TIABELLE.

Race 2:  MARK THE BENCH, STONESIDE... keep an eye on CROSSING THE LINE, it could do it first.

Race 3:  PRINCESS ARABELLA,  MY SWEET CANDY... include LOBSHOT in your 'fectas.

This blog started on July and so far, thanks to your support, it has been here 6 months! I really appreciate your visits and your feedback. It's great to help you getting the winners, especially when they come with big prizes. So, THANK YOU!

Saturday 26 December (SA Opening Day)

Merry Xmas everyone!
How was your holiday?

Mine was fabulous! I love spending time with my family and eating like if we had to finish all the food that day. Also, receiving gifts is so cool, but there's nothing better than having the Lord present in my life... Anyway, it was amazing and for some reason it feels like a double Christmas... Why? Very simple, Opening Day is tomorrow at Santa Anita!!!  Cheeers to all, again!

Great things are expected to happen this season and the improvements to the track are supposed to help for that to happen.

As usual, if you go tomorrow to the track, not only will you see great action and happy faces, but also you'll get the famous 2012 SA Calendar, this year is green and has very nice pictures of the track.  Tomorrow there's going to be a Fascinators and Fedoras Hat Contest too... so dress nice and you might get a great prize!

Oh, and one more thing, now you'll be able to make your wagers with your phone! Mobile bets are on the way! Just sign for this option by opening an account and then type http:// mobile.santaanita.com when you're there and you should be all set!

Now , let's focus on the races, since the return of the Great Race Place brings four stakes races: the California Breeders Champion (double, races 1 and 7), the Malibu and the Sir Beaufort... so, these are the picks for Opening Day.

Race 1: California Breeders Champion S. ($100,000): ALMOST A LADY, ISMENE.

Race 4: SANIBEL SID, MY T QUICK... keep an eye on PERSONALITARY.

Race 6: MR. BOSSY PANTS, KELLY LEAK... include ACHAK in your 'fectas

Race 8: Sir Beaufort S. ($150,000): MR. COMMONS, ULTIMATE EAGLE... include VENOMOUS in your 'fectas.

Race 9: Malibu S. ($300,000): ROTHKO, ASSOCIATE... keep an eye on SMASH, looked very good in his last workout.

Enjoy Opening Day @ Arcadia!

Sunday 18 December (HP Closing day)

Hello everyone!
Paddock Girl here...

It's closing day at Hollywood Park! After a big fun from yesterday at the CashCall Futurity, which was won by Liaison as it was expected, today is time to say goodbye to this Autumm meet, the track and to horse racing for just a couple of days for Christmas!

Liaison, riddeen by jockey Rafael Bejarano, gave trainer Bob Baffert its six win in this race...Also, there was a huuuge upset in race 5, But I Crushed It won ($173.40) and definitely crushed the Players Pick 5 and now there's a carryover of more than $183,000 and also a carryover of $93,036 for the Pick 6 both with a mandatory payout...  sounds very good for closing day.

As for winners of this Autumm meet, there are still some titles to be claimed, but for trainers, Mike Mitchell has a clean win with 18 races until today, separating himself just enough from trainers Bob Baffert and Doug O'Neill to leave them behind... This is his 19th title in his career and his 7th at HP... Congratulations!

I know it will be sad to not have racing picks for a whole week, but we still have today, so lets check the selections for the closing day racecard.

Race 2: TAMARACK SMARTY,  TIME GOES BY.

Race 3: EDEN'S MOON, MISS COMMUNICATION... include CHLOE W in your 'fectas.

Race 5: GOTHAM KNIGHTS, ATTA BOY PETE... I WILL FOLLOW will follow the pack, keep an eye on it.

Race 8: RAUSCHENBERG, MANDATE BLISS... keep an eye INDUSTRY LEADER.

Race 9: On Trust H. ($80,000): RED DEFENSE, MENSA HEAT... SPUD SPIVENS will give fight, put it on your 'fectas.

Saturday 17 December Picks (Cash Call HP!)

Good morning everyone!
Wow, the season is almost over for Hollywood Park and Los Alamitos.... and Xmas is just around the corner! Time definitely flies, huh?

Image from www.hollywoodpark.com
Before we start saying goodbye to the races for one week, lets remember that before closing day, big purses come in the way... and tomorrow is called the Cash Call Futurity($$$), which has a very unique field but also brings jockeys Ramon Dominguez (US leader this year) and Julien Leparoux (for other races) to the west coast, so competition mood will be on.

If you are in California and you haven't been to Hollywood Park during the year, this weekend is the last chance for you to go and also get a gift for being there. For example, today fans will receive a blue sweatshirt that will definitely keep them warm during the last races.

In other news, trainer Doug O'Neill had arrive to his winning race number 500 at HP; however, the highlight of this season keep being trainer Mike Mitchell, who not only is the second all time winning trainer of that track, but also is constantly rocking the winning circle (44% of winning races so far)... Congratulations to both!

And now, let's check our picks for today's racecard, which has 10 races.

Race 1: CLUE ME IN, MARK OF A WARROR

Race 3: IMPERIALISTIC DIVA, FARLEY STAR... include BORN LUCKY in your 'fectas, it might even get higher on the board.

Race 5: MOUDEZ, DRESS CODE... keep an eye on PORFIDO, threats to get on the board.

Well, BIG news were going around yesterday. After a gall bladder surgery, knee problems and a constant battle with weight, Valenzuela decided it was time to say goodbye.

The rider of Sunday Silence (the highlight of his career) had 4,233 wins overall.... In the end, we thank you for the great rides, the winning horses and we wish you good luck and a happy recovery. Take care Patrick!

And now is time to go back to the action. Today there are 10 races, including the Hollywood Starlet Stakes, that bring WEEMISSFRANKIE back to the track.

Sunday 4 December Picks

Hello everyone,
Paddock Girl here...

Our little adventure during the Hollywood Turf Festival went very well... I hope you had a great T weekend overall.

Yesteday was the Native Drive Stakes ($100,000), the winner was not Tweetser or Tres Borrachos, as it was expected for many, but Kettle Corn. It was a surprise result, since the John Sadler's horse had never run in a stakes race; however, Garret Gomez did a good job by taking this horse to the finish line before anyone else.

Today there are 9 races, including the Bayakoa H. Stakes, so we still have plenty of action at the racetrack... Here are the picks you're looking for:

Race 2:  MIZDIRECTION with SILVER ROCK and BERG BAHN

Race 4: THE HUNT IS ON, GRAEME CRAKERJACK... you might would like to include MEGARIDE in your 'fectas,

Race 6: ALMOST A LADY, WARREN'S AMBER... keep an eye on TEARDROPS ON FIRE, it could fire up the board.

Race 8: Bayakoa H. Stakes ($150,000):  CITY TO CITY, WASHINGTON BRIDGE ... include ELLAFITZin your 'fectas.

Sunday 6 November (BC wrap-up and SA Fall Closing Day)

Hello everyone!
Paddock girl here...

Well, well, didn't I tell you that the Breedeers' Cup was pure excitement with lots of surprises? Longshots, unexpected winners, plenty of money and fun is what we got from this international race weekend.
Even when we didn't have the winners (except for the win of REGALLY READY), we got at least one horse on the board on yesterday's races: BIRDRUN, AMAZOMBIE, SHAKELFORD and TRES BORRACHOS, SEA MOON, CREATIVE CAUSE, TURALLURE and GOLDIKOVA, DROSSELMEYER ... and we definitely enjoyed watching these contenders.

These were the highlights of the 28 edition of the BC.

Smallest payout: $2.40 to win by SECRET CIRCLE (Juvenile Classic)
Biggest payout: $131 to win by COURT VISION (Dirt Mile; 64 to 1!)
Happy Moment: Dr. Hansen, owner of HANSEN (winner of the Grey Goose BC Juvenile), was so happy and grateful to share this moment with his whole family, that kissed the winner circle's ground...and will do it again if he wins the Derby.
Sad moment: GOLDIKOVA was facing disqualification from the Dirt Mile after getting losing its 3 year reign and grabbing the third position; at the end, no changes were made but the foreign queen lost the crown.
Family Moment: ST. NICHOLAS ABBEY got the whole O'Brien family at the winner cirlcle during the Emirate Ailines BC Turf race. Trained by Aidan O'Brien and riden by his son, Joseph, the Irish bred payed $6.80 to win.

Match moment: With DROSSELMEYER, jockey Mike Smith won over Chantal Sutherland (GAME ON DUDE) in the BC Classic... it was the ultimate Match Race - Revenge moment of the BC, since Smith lost this race by a nose last year with ZENYATTA...
Winning Favorites: Only three delivered like everybody was expecting (SECRET CIRCLE, MY MISS AURELIA, ROYAL DELTA, REGALLY READY, the other 7 races gave the bettors and the horses connections a great payout.
Jockey's Highlights: Only Three jockeys won two races in this BC John Velazquez, Corey Nakatani and Mike Smith, who is not tied with Jerry Bailey with 15 wins for the all time record in the BC.

Next year, this event will go back to Santa Anita, which is having its closing day today... and a mandatory payoff; therefore, here are the selections for the last race card of this fall meet.

Race 7: SECRET COVE with SUNBURN and CARRIE ROSE... keep and eye on HOT TICKET and CALIFORNIA FLAG, they usually give surprises, so I would include them in the superfecta.

Race 8: MARCH MARY, TUESDAYS WITH P.

Race 9: MALIBU PIER, CITY TO CITY... include SARAH'S SECRET on your 'fectas.

Race 10: NUCLEAR MISSILE, SUNDAY SEEKER, KING OF SWING.

Get some rest after this BIG horse racing weekend and see you next week at Hollywood Park!
Remember that you can follow us on Facebook, just search for PADDOCK PICKS and like us!

Saturday 5 November (Breeders' Day 2)

Good morning everyone!
Paddock girl ready for BC's Day 2!

Well, that's what a I call a great Breeders' Cup Ladies Day... The girls show once again that they're great. Like last year, all the races were very competitive and gave us a good quality show. The winners were both favorites and longshots. Here's the list with the queens of the Breeders'.

November 4
Race 5: BC Juvenile Classic ($500,000): SECRET CIRCLE (the super favorite, pay $0.40, the second all-time smallest amount on a BC race).
Race 6: BC Juvenile Fillies Turf ($1,000,000): STEPHANIE'S KITTEN (our best finalist was STOPSHOPPINGMARIA, got second in this race).
Race 7: BC Fillie and Mare Sprint: ($1,000,000): MUSICAL ROMANCE (we gave you this horse as a longshot!...and if you bet it, you got back $ 20.20
to win), SWITCH got second.

(our second choice to win got the title...WEMISSFRANKIE got third).
Race 9: BC Filly and Mare Turf ($2,000,000): PERFECT SHIRL (best payout, $27.80 to win...STACELITA could't find a spot at the end of the race and finished almost last; our other selections, NAHRAIN and MISTY FOR ME, got second and third).
Race 10: BC Ladies Classic ($2,000,000): ROYAL DELTA (our second choice to win got these nice flowers...PLUM PRETTY couldn't deliver at the end).

I hope you enjoyed as much as I did with all the winners we had yesterday, congratulations to all of them and their conections...it could only get better if I was at Louisville right now!

Today, the fun will just get waaaay better.
More races = more money = more fun for everyone!
11 races where girls and boys from all the world will face each other looking to be the best...this is why the Breeders' Cup is the Superbowl of horse-racing!

We will see big stars on the field, but none of them like the european GOLDIKOVA (shown on the picture), who's hoping to get her fourth BC MIle in a row, competing with tough horses like GIO PONTI and MR. COMMONS... no other horse has won the same race so many times on the BC, but this is the perfect place to make history.

And to be part of it, here are the picks for today!

Race 8: Emirate Airlines BC Turf: ($3,000,000): SARAFINA, SEA MOON, MIDDAY.
Race 9: Grey Goose BC Juvenile ($2,000,000): CREATIVE CAUSE, ALPHA DRILL.
Race 10: TVG BC Mile ($2,000,000): GOLDIKOVA with GIO PONTI and TURALLURE...include BYWORD on your 'fectas.
Race 11: BC Ladies Classic ($5,000,000): SO YOU THINK, FLAT OUT with DROSSELMEYER and UNCLE MO.

Just one more thing...I promised some surprises for this Breeders' and if you go to facebook you'll find us there! Just type paddock picks and you can follow us there to get more info and images; also if you look for paddockgirl you can add me and we can be friends! Isn't that cool?

Happy Betting and to all the BC contenders, see you next year at Santa Anita!

Saturday 29 October Picks

Good early morning everyone!

It's so good to be back.... Did you miss me?... I had an awful cold last weekend that not only left me speechless, since it took away my voice, but also didn't let me to turn on the computer (no news, no reading, no horse racing, no nothing...not good)...it felt like if breathing was a gift, but now I'm much much better and ready to share and make some bets!

Well, this Sunday is Opening Day for Churchill Downs and that just means one thing: Breeders!...The two-day international horse racing event will happen on Nov. 4 and 5 at Kentucky and is excepted to be great.  Over -the- top horses, millionaire bets and lots of alcohol, as usual, all under the stunningly white twin spires.

Tomorrow, fans will have plenty of fun while attending the California Cup at Santa Anita.  Not only will they get a commemorative T-shirt at the entrance, but they'll also enjoy a pink paddock and winning circle during the 9 race card, thanks to the Susan. G. Komen campaign to promote breast cancer awareness between horse racing fans... you can wear pink too and support.

With no more to say, here are the picks for today at SA:

It seems we're getting back on track... we had a couple of winners and an exacta box, but the Oak Tree Derby definitely gave us a surprise with ULTIMATE EAGLE and jockey Martin Pedroza ($34.20 to win), VENOMOUS came in 2nd and MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE just couldn't make it (4th place).

The weather in SA is perfect! Remember that today you'll get a nice orange football shirt if you also attended on October 2 or 9....go Santa Anita! ;)

Race 4: MARK OF A WARRIOR, DEE DEE'S LEGACY

Race 8: Harold C. Ramser Sr. Stakes ($100,000): CELESTIAL KITTEN, BAUBLE QUEEN...include SARAH'S SECRET in your 'fectas.

Saturday 15 October Picks

Hello everyone!

Well, last weekend wasn't our best, including for the great horses that most handicappers selected to be at the winner 's circle.  The super favorites THE FACTOR (4th place) and MR. COMMONS (2o place) didn't delivered like everyone was expecting, also ANDINA got in 5th;  however, AMAZOMBIE got the Ancient Title Stakes (yeeeii!); ALL START HEART and VICTORYASECRET got the 1-2 in the Swingtime Stakes and JERANOMO got the Oak Tree Mile.

At Keeneland, GIO PONTI won and SIDNEY'S CANDY got on third place on the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes, while MUSICAL ROMANCE and SWITCH got second and third, respectively.

Overall, it wasn't bad, we still have winners and good selections, but let's do them great for this weekend. Today, the Oak Tree Derby takes place on race no. 9

Race 1: TIZ POINT, STONEY FLEECE.

Race 3: CALIFORNIA HEAT, SWISS CHARM...have an eye on VONN NEZ

Race 8:  DEPUTIFORMER, LORD AVALON...include SUMMERS AT DELMAR in your 'fectas

Race 9: Oak Tree Derby:  MIDNIGHT INTERLUDE, VENOMOUS.... include GREAT WARRIOR in your 'fectas.

See you tomorrow!
Happy Betting!

Saturday 08 October Picks

Good morning everyone!

Well, it seems we didi very well last week at Santa Anita: only winners and a couple of exactas!!!... HOT RIDE, DRILL and DUBAWI HEIGHTS delivered as we thought they would; ZAZU came with its best, leaving us wondering if there's something wrong with BLIND LUCK (hopefully not since its a great horse)... ACCLAMATION was scratched for the Goodwook Stakes (Saturday), but still GAME ON DUDE won the race and as you know, ACCLAMATION won Sunday's Clement L. Hirsh Turf Championship race...

But now we're on weekend no. 2 of the autumn meet and is time to check our picks for today...There are 2 stakes races at SA:

Race 3:  PRIVATE BOUNTY, IMPERIAL PRIDE.

Race 4: Ancient Title Stakes:  THE FACTOR great workouts and very good past performances; AMAZOMBIE is a horse that I've always like and will be on the board this time.

Race 7: Swingtime Stakes: ANDINA (remember Del Mar? If not, just check again my blog and you'll see), with  ALL STAT HEARTS and VICTORYASECRET.

Race 9:  Oak Tree Mile: MR. COMMONS with CALIMONCO and JERANIMO

Also, on our Keeneland picks:

Race 6:  Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes: SWITCH with MUSICAL ROMANCE and RAPPORT

Race 9:  Shadwell Turf Stakes: GIO PONTI, SIDNEY'S CANDY

Santa Anita Fall! Saturday 2 October

Good morning everyone!
Paddock girl is back :)

As you know, yesterday it was Santa Anita Opening Day for this short meet, which will end on November 6.   Here at this blog, you'll be able to find picks for every Saturday, some Sundays and other big races across the country. I definitely recommend you to stay tune... or you'll loose!

If you had a change to enjoy Fairplex like I did, I hope you also made some good bets there. Jockey Martin Pedroza won again the riding title of that small racetrack... and now him and his connections will try to take advantage of Santa Anita, where more (and most of the good) jockeys will run and look for the title too.

So far, jockey Garret Gomez is the leader and today they're plenty of good races to check out: 4 out of 11 are stakes races....are you ready? Well, let's check our selections then:

Race 3:  HOT RIDE, ENDLESS CRUISE.... have an eye on NEBIKON

Race 5:  Norfolk S. Stakes: Is a battle between CREATIVE CAUSE and DRILL... and I have to incline in favor of Baffert's horse

Race 6:  Lady's Secret Stakes:  BLIND LUCK is the one to catch no doubt about it, ASK THE MOON and ZAZU have a chance for second, but that's it.

Race 7: Goodwood Stakes: For some reason this reminds me of Del Mar, even thought now there is a dirt track.... ACCLAMATION, GAME ON DUDE (I'll give him some faith)... include AWESOME GEMS on your 'fectas

Race 10: Yellow Ribbon Stakes: DUBAWI HEIGHTS, with COZY ROSIE and MALIBU PEAR... include CAMBINA in your 'fectas.

Good luck, happy betting and see you next week!

Starting today, we just have one more week left until Del Mar is over and our summer fun too... hold the tears, we're still lucky!
Yesterday was not bad for a Wednesday result, a couple of exactas and horses on the money, all right!....HELEONOR RUGBY looked so good that was the winner of the featured race, against favorites LOOKING FOR JONESY AND STARLIGHT MAGIC, paying $14 to win. The pick 6 paid very well also,  more than $500, 000 went to Brooklyn.
In other news, jockey Tyler Baze won't be riding today, he's suspended and now is waiting for pending formal hearing. Hopefully he'll reture soon to ride his mounts.

Wednesday 31 August Picks

Good morning, Paddock girl here:

WOW, the Pacific Classic gave us classic thrills when all the horses were looking for the $1 million prize. The fight between Acclamation and Twirling Candy was pure fun. As you know, at the end Acclamation won, making clear that he still has a lot to show in the future, just like Patrick Valenzuela, who went back to the winners' circle for this race after 20 years.

Also, The Factor delivered on the Pat O' Brien Stakes and Celtic New Year won on the Del Mar Handicap.

Almost 30, 000 got a chance to see all this at the racetrack, where most of them received a sports bag at the entrance... and I'm sure most of them will tell you that it was worth it. The paddock was crowded before race 1 and people just enjoyed being there, placing some bets and watching the races.

With just one more week at Del Mar, there's going to be a mix of happiness and sadness, but for now let's check the picks for today's race card.

Race 1:  INDECISE, CHARM THE MARKER

Race 2:  JOCKER FACE, TE RAPA

Race 3: ANNA YOU'RE UP, KVETCH...PLAYING DIRTY will fight, but will it be good enough?

Race 7: Generous Portion Stakes: LOOKING FOR JONESY, POWER OF NINE...HELEONOR RUGBY looks well for the 'fectas...

Happy Betting!

Pacific Classic Day Picks (August 28)

Good morning everyone! Paddock girl reporting from the Del Mar Press Box!

It seems we're getting back on track. We did good yesterday except for race 1. Like I said, MENSA HEAT look really good and she took the money on race 5. Also, CARACORTADO won by a nose to MR. COMMONS in the Del Mar Mile, giving a showdown to the crowd like we haven't had in the last weeks.

Yesterday was just a training for the big time we'll have in a couple of hours... Here is as busy as if we were running a newspaper. Everybody is here and we're excited and ready for all the madness and fun that we'll have today.

On the Classic, there will be just 9 contenders who will try to get the $1 million award. As rumored yesterday, GREAT WARRIOR (60-1) was scratched from the race; and the favorite is still TWIRLING CANDY, while ACCLAMATION is still on the favorites. Posting time: 5:18 pm

Also, we have two big races on our 11 race card for today:  the Del Mar Handicap and the Pat O'Brien Stakes (races 3 and 5).

If you're coming to the track, I have news for you. To get here on time, you'll have to get earlier, is going to be busy and pack. When you get to the entrance, you'll receive a coupon for your TVG's Sports Bag...and they disappear very fast, so come early and bring a great attitude.

One more thing: at the paddcok, come and say hi! It will be crazy out there, but you'll be able to see me there, just look for a camera and a girl on a hat... easy, right?

And now, let's go to our picks :

Race 1: CAYAMBE, GOTHIC SAMURAI

Race 3:  Del Mar Handicap:  BOURBON BAY, MAKE MUSIC FOR ME

Race 5: Pat O'Brien Stakes: THE FACTOR, SMILING TIGER.... Be afraid of CROWN OF THORNS

Race 7:  AEROMON, ARMENIAN STAR

Race 9:  TVG Pacific Classic: TWIRLING CANDY, DON CAVALLO, TRES BORRACHOS....It's a hard race and plenty of the horses have a chance to win it, but so far, I believe these three will be the top ones.

Gook luck to everyone and Happy Betting!

Saturday 27 August Picks

Good morning!

It seems like we're getting back on track with our bets, an exacta and some horses on the money sounds good.

Yesterday there were two big surprises delivered by one person: Hector Berrios, who won two races on longshots, including the CTT and Thoroughbred Owners of California Handicap aboard PRIVATE AFFAIR...we'll follow his development during the rest of the meet.

This is a BIG weekend! As you know tomorrow is the Pacific Classic and everybody is getting ready for it, but today we also have the Del Mar Mile (Grade I) with 6 contenders so far.

Also, in a couple of minutes you can listen "Del Mar Direct" on 1090 am (XX Sports), where I'll give you more picks and inside information just before the end of the show (10 am).

Now, the picks for today:

Race 1: LORD VRONSKY, UNUSUAL BEAM

Race 4: SPORTING ART, STONESIDE....Longshot: KELLY LEAK

Happy Betting!

Thrusday 25 August Picks

Good morning, Paddock girl here:

What a day! We had a duel between Joel Rosario and Rafael Bejarano on the Harry F. Brubaker Stakes. Norvsky (Bejarano) just lost for a nose to John Jonhy Kay (Rosario) and Red Sun came in third... it was a fun race to watch, but it also reminded me about last week when Nereid lost with Summer Soiree.

But we also had an exacta on race 5...too bad Purple Starduster with Patrick Valenzuela just gave us dust.

In other news, the post drawing for the Pacific Classic has been done already, and now that Blind Luck is out of the TVG's race, Acclamation and Twirling Candy are getting a lot of attention... more info tomorrow!

Today I'll record another participation at Caballos y Opinion, the Argentinean radio show I have been talking about lately. The topic: Pacific Classic, of course!

Race 4:  GUMPTION, GLORY PRIDE....Include EL NADIA on your 'fectas...
