Wednesday July 31 Del Mar Picks

Good morning people:
Paddock Girl here:

What a way to close a very festive weekend!  The three concerts for three days in a row after the races were a complete success.

Last Sunday, "Los Tucanes de Tijuana" (mexican music) put everybody to dance, including those without cowboy boots or "tejanas"(cowboy hats).

I believe they were also dancing not only becasue the weather is slightly improving at "Where the turf meets the surf", but because there is a Pick-6 carryover from last Sunday of $261,359 and that only means that lots of people will try to grab it in the next couple of hours.

Today there 8 races, including the Graduation Stakes, and here are your picks for this Wednesday:

Race 1: DOMONATION, AFLEET COWBOY... include IT DOESN'T ADD UP in your 'fectas.

Race 2: LITTLE BIT CACTUS, CRAVIN' THE HEAT... include JEN'S HOT in your 'fectas.

Race 3: SPRING UP, MAGNUM FORCE...include SOLID SOUTH in your 'fectas.

Both the Beer Fest and the races were very popular yesterday. The winners of the Stakes were SWEET MARINI (Fleet Treat S.) and KETTLE CORN (San Diego Handicap). PAYNTER came in second, but after all that he's been through, is still a champ.

From the picks on the radio show, we gave you an exacta on race 6 (QUALITY PLAN, MAGIC DADDY: congratulations) and the horse in the ninth race (SOUTH FLOYD) looked like it was going to win, but could't hold it and just before the finish line two other horses got in front of him, ending in  third place.

Saturday July 27 Del Mar Picks

Good morning my dear racing fans,
Paddock Girl here:

Another busy Saturday! I think I'm getting used to this already... Hope you liked my little segment at XX Sports AM 1090 (http://xsportsradio.com), during the "Del Mar Direct" radio show, where Toby Turrell host it from 9 to 10 am (12-1pm ET).

RICHARD'S KID, wow! He definitely loves this track. Once again he delivered like a champ. This 8-year old horse is looking better with age. Congratulations to all his connections.

Today will be an all-day long party at the track, here is why:

    * Yesterday it was concert night with "Fitz and the Tantrum" (yes, the pink heart from their new album was all around) and tonight is concert night again! As you know, usually the "Del Mar Concert Series" is on FRidays, but there are also a couple of Satuday and Sunday concerts, and this one is the first of this season! Tonight, get ready for some rock because "Sammy and The Wabos" will be playing at the Seaside Stage, starting at 6:30 pm.

    * Also, this Saturday is Beer Fest! Over a 100  craft beers will available, including more than 40 top-rated San Diego beers. For $17 you can purchase 5 7oz. tastings... and if you get hungry, there will be a couple of food trucks there!

   * Last, but not least, the reason why we love this track: races!!!

Today there are 10 races, including the Fleet Treat Stakes and the San Diego Handicap. On both races, the field is small, with only 6 horses each. The morning leaders are DOINGHARDTIMEAGAIN for the Fleet Treat S. and the sentimental favorite PAYNTER for the SD Handicap.

Here are your picks for today:

Race 1: INNER GROVE, ROMANTIC WISH... include NIGHT DANCE in your 'fectas.

Race 2: AMERICAN PRIDE, FOREVER JUANITO... include LITTLE SHACK in your 'fectas.

Race 3: U R MY CANDY GIRL, SECRET MEMO... include SCARY FAST in your 'fectas.

Friday July 26 Del Mar Picks

Hello fans:
Paddock Girl here:

The sun is refusing to show up at Del Mar. Yesterday it rained for a little bit (can't believe it rained in July)... but that won't scare all the fun things that there are going to happen today at the track.

If you here some "ROWRRR!!!" during the day, don't get scared, is just that today is COUGAR DAY! Today we'll find out who will it be Del Mar's Miss Cougar (a 40 year-old or older lady that is called like this because she likes to date younger guys).

There is also a race in her name: the Cougar II Handicap, which is the featured race of the day and that, as you can imagine, is very controversial for what it promotes.

The second concert of show of the Summer Concerts Series at Del Mar will be starting tonight just after the races. "Fitz and the Tamtrums'"will be playing at the Seaside Stage.

Here are your picks for this Friday:

Race 1: FLASHY DAME, WITH A MIRACLE... includeWARREN'S ASSASSIN in your 'fectas.

Race 2:  DISTINTIC PASSION, KOAST... include SIROCCO STRIKE in your 'fectas.

Race 3: SHORT SWORK, SALT POWER.

Race 4: BRANDING, BLACK WITCH... include LADY ASANO in your 'fectas.

Race 5: NIKKI ALLYN, CHARISSA.... include MIA STORM in your 'fectas.

Wednesday July 24 Picks

Good morning people:
Paddock Girl here:

First week is gone and it was done with style!  Last Sunday was a very busy day at Del Mar and everyone got something back, besides having fun!

First, the day started with lost of kind entering the gates. As usual it was Family Fun Day, but this time, they got a lovely plush toy (yes, a pony) with their paid admission. They were so cute that I really wanted one for my own! Kids were playing with the little brown horses everywhere!

Then, as I told you, it was Jockey Photo Day. Fans were making line for more than an hour to be the first ones to have a picture with athletes like Joe Talamo, Julien Leparoux, Rafael Bejarano, Alonso Quinonez, Brice Blanc, Kayla Stra and others! They gave autographs, took lots of pictures and had fun with their little and big fans.

As you can imagine, it was all smiles around the track and the races haven't even started at that time.

Then the races came, but if you think that the fun ended with the races... well, there was one more even to keep having fun.

The Paddock Horse Sale started 20 minutes after the last race. On its second year, the event was conducted again by Barrets Equine Limited, the most important company if its kind in California.

27 out-of-state horses were eligible for this auction sale, but only 17 were bought, since 2 horses were withdrawn and 8 were not sold.

All of them  were also good for the "Ship and Win" Program that this track is promoting to draw more horses to the races.  In total, $1,275,400 were spent that day.

The most expensive horse was OSCAR PARTY Mad, a 3-year-old filly by DIXIE UNION, sold for $510,000 to trainer James Cassidy, who expects to tun this filly during the current meet of Del Mar.

This week there will be a lot going on at the track also, but I'll let you know in the next days.

Today there are 8 races, including the Wickerr Stakes and there's a Pick-6 carryover from last Sunday of $238,499... here are your picks for this Wednesday:

Race 1: COTTON'S POINT, SOPHIE'S SECRET... include AIR OF ROYALTY in your 'fectas.

Race 2: CAPTAIN CORRIGAN, HARDLINER... include PENNY MAKER in your 'fectas.

Sunday July 21 Del Mar Picks

Hello racing fans:
Paddock Girl here:

Well, the cloudy weather of Del Mar finally was a good reflection of how we did yesterday with our bets. After doing very well the last days, yesterday it was rusty. I mean, don't get me wrong, we won a couple of races and exactas, but no more. Still, the show must go on right... so let's go to make some money and have fun!

My pick of the rady for "Del Mar Direct" (radio show), which was UNUSUAL HOTTIE (5) on race 5 (Osunitas Stakes), finished second after leading the race until before the finish line. However, JERANIMO did deliver (Race 8: Eddie Read Stakes).  An "easy" win on the Eddie Ready Stakes by jockey Rafael Bejarano, so far the leader of the meet.

Also, I've been told that some Diamond Club subscribers (the Del Mar fans card), received a mystery voucher that could be cashed only yesterday to get $5 for free.

Today there are 9 races, including the featured California Dreamin' and the San Clemente Handicap. The fist one has SUMMER HIT as a favorite, while in the second one IOTOPA has the honors.

Remember that today is Jockey Photo Day! Usually it was held on Labor Day, but this year things got changed, but it will be located on its usual spot, Plaza de Mexico. That means that if you're going to the track, you should bring your camera to get a picture with your favorite athletes! It has been going for 20 years, and is a popular event among fans; usually there's a long line, so get there early.

Also, at the end of the day, there will be a "Race Ready Paddock Sale"... if you;re looking for a horse, bring your money!

Here are your picks for this lovely Sunday:

Race 1: JOINT ATTEMPT, JOEANDBETTY'SBABY... include TEBOWING in your 'fectas.

Race 2: SOCIALBUG, HUMOR ME... include FANTICOLA in your 'fectas.

Race 3: EVERTON, CURLY TOP... include HOLY CANDY  in your 'fectas.

Race 4: DUBAI RULER, TAMARANDO... include SMOG CUTTER in your 'fectas.

Race 5: California Dreaming Handicap ($150,000):  SUMMER HIT, HE B FIRE N ICE... include HOLLADAY ROAD in your 'fectas.

Race 6: FASCINATING, SOUTHERN SUNSHINE... include SPRING MOON in your 'fectas.

Race 7: GUNSHOT STRAIGHT, CHAPMAN'S PEAK.

Race 8:  San Clemente Handicap ($150,000):  UNUSUAL WAY, IOTOPA... include WISHING GATE in your 'fectas.

Race 9: COSMIC HEAT, HUSTLIN NU... include ROBIN THE CAT in your 'fectas.

Thursday July 18 Del Mar Picks

Hello everyone,

WOW! Opening Day at Del Mar keeps getting better every year!

Even though this time there was no breaking record attendance (only 43,030 this year, compared with more than 47,000), the crowd bet much more money than last year  ($14.2 million); this year $4,395,549 were placed on bets...

people were part of this crazy, fun and very crowed place. More than $14.2  million were bet yesterday, one million more than last year.

The first race was won by jockey Joel Rosario, who also won 3 more races during the day.

On the winning standings, the rest of the racecard was very spread: jockeys Martin Pedroza, Gary Stevens, Rafael Bejarano, Corey nakatani, Julien Leparoux and Edwin Maldonado got one under their belts, giving bettors a couple of nice surprises on the payouts.

As usual, before the races started, the fun had already started, beautiful hats everywhere; drinks, lots of drinks also going around the fan's hands... just your usual Del Mar party scene.

This year security was a little bit more tight, dogs were sniffing the area before the gates open and there were lots of undercover agents around the track, but fortunately the only bad things that happened were drunk people getting on fights and things getting lost (money included).

Overall, it was a great Opening Day, but now is time to look ahead this season, so here are your picks for today's 8 races:

Race 1:  TIZ MOLLY, HIDINGINPLAINSIGHT... include TASTY TREAT in your 'fectas.

Race 2: HALPONDOROSA, SHE'S ALL YOURS... include FREQUENT FAME in your 'fectas.

Race 3:  LITTLE UNUSUAL, REAL BRIGHT BOOTS... include FRANNIE'SSPIRITTOO in your 'fectas.

Race 4: ROWDY GAL, J AND S EXPRESS... keep an eye on JOYCE ON ME.

Race 6:  FOOTGARD, CHATTER UP... include ANYTHINGTOGETEVEN in your 'fectas.

Race 7: EXECUTIVEPRIVILEDGE, GYPSY ROBIN... include RENNESGOTZIP in your 'fectas.

Race 8 TE RAPA, TAMARACK SMARTY... include ROMEO ROYALE in your 'fectas.
