First week down!

Hello everyone!

I must say I'm very pleased with the way my first week went. It was good to see plenty of friends, acquaintances and horses again.  From the paddock, the pretty view and the beautiful horses were present on every race.

On Saturday,  I started again as a guest at the radio show "Del Mar direct", with Toby Turrell and Gary Mandella. There I gave a couple of picks, which came like this:

Race 2:  ACHAK (no. 6), who unhurried at the first turn but still finished third, just a neck after "Waltzing with blue"; and MATTO MONDO (no. 4): winner!
Race 5: ANDINA (no 3): winner!... again it was a battle "Andina" and "Wild Mia"; every handicapper has "Wild Mia" as their choice, but this time "Andina" got the triumph.

During the first week I had a lot of the races, especially winners. For this reason, I'll give you some picks for every single day of  the Del Mar meet... sounds good, right?

However, if you want to hear me, remember to listen "Del Mar Direct" every Saturday, from 9 to 10 am at XX Sports (1090 am).

Have a great day!

Del Mar Opening Day 2011

Finally it was here!
Hats, high heels, fashion, good looking people and the summer breeze.

Opening Day at Del Mar is one of the most anticipated days in the horse racing industry. It has become one of the most important social event in San Diego; this time more than 47,000 people gathered "where the turf meets the surf" to enjoy the track, meet people, make money and to have fun. Once again more women showed up than men... and most of them couldn't walk at the end!
Before post time (2pm), the paddock was packed. Just like the rest of the venue it looked colorful and full of life.
The first race was taken by jockey Joseph Talamo and trainer Howard L.Zucker with "Price".  During the 10 race card, only Joseph Talamo repeated a winning race, however, two women jockeys took the price with them...that's what I call girl power!

The Oceanside Stakes, the featured race, had 14 eligible horses but only 9 tried to win a purse of $100, 000. The favorite was Mr. Commons, who recently ran in the Preakness.

The 10 winning horses of the day were:
Price (Joseph Talamo),
King Ledley (Kayla Stra)
Classy Lion (Tyler Baze)
Weemissfrankie (Rafael Bejarano)
Last Sting (Alonso Quinonez)
Mentidoso (Chantal Sutherland)
Money Lover (Martin Garcia)
Mr. Commons (Mike Smith; Ocenside Stakes)
Gilligan (Joseph Talamo)
Gahnzo Bob (Martin Pedroza; who was celebrating his 49th birthday).

My picks of the day were not that far from the horses across the board.
