BREEDERS' CUP 2013 Day 2

   The weather couldn't be better at Santa Anita for Day 1 of the Breeders' Cup. Santa Anita looked amazing as usual; plenty of people showed up, in fact more than 35,000 showed up today...and of course there was purple items all around.

   The betting handle for five Breeder's Cup races was $34.6 million... and there are still 9 BC races, so this definitely will be fun to bet and watch.

    As part of the 30th edition celebration, there has been lots of parties, food and drinks (did you try the taste of L.A. and those delicious cupcakes?)... You still have a chance to experience the Breeders' Cup at "The Great race Place". Races start at 10:15 AM, but i definitely suggest you arrive as early as possible.

   Today, as you may know, is the BC Classic... So far, 12 super horses have been entered. The favorite for the last days has been GAME ON DUDE, who now will be ridden by Mike Smith, the All-time Breeders' Cup Jockey Champion.

    So far, it has been seen as the All-star team: GAME ON DUDE, Bob Baffert and Mike Smith... however, this trio of champions have several horses that could take the spotlight tomorrow, like MUCHO MACHO MEN, RON THE GREEK and PALACE MALICE.

   Post time for this race is 5:35 PM... and believe me, is worth watching! Past races has given us great champions and this Classic won't be the exception.

   Today is Closing day at Del Mar!!! Can't believe the season is almost over. Overall, it has been a great meet and  if you had a chance to go to the track, you will definitely agree with me... if not, there's still chance!

   Labor Day weekend was very good! Concerts, carryovers, weiner dogs races... which reminds me, today is mandatory pay day, that means that even if there are no absolute winers on the several picks,  there will be a good payout.

    Last Sunday of the meet and there are 11 races today! That includes the Torrey Pines and theAdoration Stakes, as well as the two divisions of the Del Mar Derby.     By the way, what a great Saturday we had yesterday. Not only for the wins we got, but also because of all of the fun we had. Ziggy Marley rocked the house, the concert was soooo cool! Hundreds gathered to enjoy the "Reggae Fest", the place was packed!!!

   Also, the last edition of the Beer Fest for this season was very good! I hope you had chance to visit the Seaside area.

    I hope you got some rest last night because tonight there's plenty of action here at Del Mar.

    First of all,  I want to thank everyone who has listened my radio participation at "Del Mar Direct", with host Toby Turrell, at XX Sports AM 1090 (http://xsportsradio.com), from 9 to 10 am (12-1pm ET). It has being a pleasure to get in contact with all the horse racing fans throughout this radio show and this blog.

Ziggy Marley will be playing one more time during the Reggae Festival. I can guarantee you that you'll have a great time since this event is one of the highlights of the whole Del Mar season. As usual, concerts are are the seaside Stage after the races are over.

   Today is the beginning of Labor Day weekend and it starts on the right side: there's a Pick-6 carryover for today! Is only for $81,441, until now, but that will definitely go higher than that! Don;t you want to make your Happy Friday dance?!

   Usually Fridays are concert night and to wrap up the 4 O'Clock Friday Concert Series, native rock band "Rocket form the Crypt"will be playing after the races are over at the Seaside Stage.

    As you know, this is our last weekend here at Del Mar and since this track is "as cool as ever",  don;t be surprise that it end things with style!

Del Mar Pacific Classic Picks (August 25)

   Yesterday was a very exciting day, not only because we' were able to see part of the Pacific CLassic Day crowd, but also because at the end of the day, the gate took the spotlight. For some reason,  the gate malfunctioned before the start after a a horse reared up, spooking other horses and people too. Fortunately none of them injured, but at the end, race 10 was declared "no contest", which cost more than a million dollars to track in refunds for betting tickets.

  As you know, todays is the day. The Pacific Classic is here!  Everybody is here and we're excited and ready for all the madness and fun that we'll have today.

    There has been some changes on the Classic.now  there will be just 12 contenders who will try to get the $1 million award.  LIAISON was scratched from the race, its connections didn't like the post position they got (No.2).
 
   Also, as you know, jockey Joel Rosario got injured last Friday at Saratoga, he broke his foot and won't be able to ride for six weeks, which means that GAME ON DUDE has a new rider: jockey Martin Garcia.

   The favorite is still GAME ON DUDE. Posting time: 5:18 pm

   There are two other big races on our 11 race card for today:  the Del Mar Mile Handicap and the Pat O'Brien Stakes (races 5 and 7). The favorites are OBVIOUSLY and GOLDENCENTS (now ridden by jockey Patrick Valenzuela)

    Remember that today is a big day, so if you'll have to get earlier, is going to be busy and pack. When you get to the entrance, you'll receive a coupon that you can redeem for your Pacific Classic T-Shirt... they disappear very fast, so come early and bring a great attitude.

Sunday August 18 Del Mar Picks

    We know is Sunday, but believe it or not, there are 10 races today, including the Rancho Bernardo and the Solana Beach Handicap, where the favorites so far are RENEESGOTZIP and UNUSUAL HOTTIE, respectively.

    By the way, the concert was soooo cool! Hundreds gathered one more night to enjoy "Weezer", the place was packed!!!

   And just in case you didn't hear, someone stole the veterinarian's van from inside the track and drove it between races, before any horses could get into it for their race. He dressed like the veterinarian and somehow was able to succeed, but only for a couple of minutes, because after driving the van to the top of the stretch he tried to mix with the crowd, but was captured and arrested.

   The good news is that the van was recovered, everything went back to normal after that and...there's another carryover. This time is of $189,822, but it will go higher, way higher, especially with that bonus that del Mar include every Sunday.

    Today is a very good day at Del Mar, Arlington and Saratoga. Plenty of good races and great horses, what's not to love about that? 

    Let's start with Del Mar, where there's plenty of action going on.  Today there are 10 races and several activities around them.  

  

   "Grill Fest" will make hungry people happy! Over 25 season barbecue grills and a couple of chefs will be available to grill everything they can (be aware haha). You can buy 5 portions of their creations for just $10.

     As usual, Steel Pulse let people happy after their concert. Hundreds gathered to enjoy their music (yes, at some point the smell was funny, but the music was good!)

     If you couldn't be there, don't worry, tonight is also concert night. This time, "Weezer" will be playing at the Seaside Stage after the races.... and even though their music is very different from "Steel Pulse", I can guarantee you that you'll have a great time.      This Friday will make you double happy:  There's a Pick-6 carryover for today! Is only for $110,122, until now, but that will definitely go higher than a million dollars because it's Friday!

    However, there are only 7 races today, a fact that you will forget while you;re dancing because tonight is s concert night.  "Steel Pulse'", a Del Mar favorite, will be playing its hits at the Seaside Stage right after the races (7:30pm)  This UK band has played many times at Del Mar and I can tell you taht good vibes will be in the air when the concert finishes. Remember is free with your entrance only if you're inside before the races are over... or you can pay $20 to enjoy the concert.

     Can't say much but tomorrow will be a big day here (no giveaways, sorry), there will be lots of events and also a concert (Weeezeeeer) and for me is radio show time, so I'm very excited with everything that tomorrow will have for all of us.  Remember to listen "Del Mar Direct", with host Toby Turrell, at XX Sports AM 1090 (http://xsportsradio.com), from 9 to 10 am (12-1pm ET).

   Well, definitely there was some controversy during the  Green Flash Handicap, yesterday's featured race. DISTINCTIV PASSION (Maldonado)  got disqualified after "blocking" STRONG WIND (Stevens)  for a better finish position, which ended in giving  SIRROCO STRIKE and jockey Julien Leparoux the glory.            Most fans don't agree that the Stewards ruling was correct, since they've been so many cases when the same situation has gone without any ruling... and because a lot of them lost the Pick-6 because of it.  However, the Stewards are responsible of these kind of decisions... what do you think?
