Both the Gourmet Food Truck Festival and the races were very popular yesterday. The winners of the Stakes were STARLIGHT MAGIC (Fleet Treat S.) and RAIL TRIP (San Diego Handicap). We gave you one of these two, so congratulations!

Yesterday was a big day for favorites at Saratoga: ALPHA dominated one more time and won the Jim Dandy Stakes over horses like LIAISON, THEET OF THE DOG and ATIGUN. Also, WINTER MEMORIES won the Diana Stakes over TAPISFLY and ZAGORA.

This Sunday there are also several stakes races, but on a different track. Monmouth Park will be hosting, among others, the Haskell Invitational Stakes: the purse is one million dollars and the favorite is the well known PAYNTER, which will be ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano. Nonetheless, this race has another big names like DULLAHAN, GEMOLOGIST and NONIOS.

Back at Del Mar, today there are 10 races, including the Bing Crosby Stakes, where the favorite so far is actually divided in two horses: AMAZOMBIE and THE FACTOR... this duel will be fun!

If you have a chance to go to the track, let me tell you that today is Family Day! Little kids will get at the entrance a plush toy (horsey!) with their paid entrance beside lots of fun and activities at the infield.

Also, if they enter Camp Del Mar, they have a chance to be part of the "jumping kids" at the track.

   Did you see the Olympics' ceremony? It was awesome... and long! Those fireworks really took my breath ways... Hopefully our athletes will bring home the gold for one more time... I wonder how would horse racing look as an olympic competition...

   An talking about athletes, there have been a lot of news since Del Mar started, but definitely one that is creating a lot of controversy (again) is one of their jockeys. Chantal Sutherland, the new face of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, has also other partnerships, like with TVG, one of the most important TV companies related with horse racing.

   This time, they have launches a campaign named "Summer of Mobile", to promote bets on mobile devices and tablets, which has nothing in special, besides that there's an QR code on Sutherland's pants, located at her back, low back (on her "backside" as everyone is calling it). This "promotion" will be going on until the End of the Del Mar meet... what do you think of it?

Going back to the track, today there will be other promotions as well, just not of that kind.

This Saturday, the Gourmet Food Truck Festival arrives to Dell Mar for the second time and it will host more than 50 food different options from Southern California and the world. The event will be on the 'concert" area... I'm sure it will smell delicious!

Wednesday July 26 Picks (Paddock Horse Sale review)

We're starting second week!
After the excitement and madness from week at Del Mar, things are just a little bit more quiet and serious, but the fun keeps going on.  This week the highlight events, beside the races, will be going on during the weekend: food trucks, family day, plush toys and more!

Last Sunday there was a Paddock Horse Sale that offered some good horses for new owners and  old trainers. In the first event of its kind at this racetrack's paddock area, 45 out-of-state horses were eligible for this auction sale, but only 26 were bought, since nine horses withdrawn and 10 were not sold. All of them  were also good for the "Ship and Win" Program that this track is promoting to draw more horses to the races.

The event was conducted by Barrets Equine Limited, the most important company if its kind in California.

   The inner paddock area was full and plenty of horse men and spectators were enjoying the beautiful horses and the event from the outside.

 It has been called as a success, especially after the money amounts that the horses got during the sale. The most expensive horse was Fighting Mean Mad, a 2-year-old filly maiden race winner who sold for $200,000. In total, $1,275,400 were spent that day.

   ACCLAMATION  did it again. An easy win on the Eddie Ready Stakes showed us yesterday what an amazing horse it is. Under jockey Patrick Valenzuela, if flew practically from gate-to-wire... now is expected that the horse champion trained by Don Warren will be part of the Pacific Classic on August 26. C

    Good news for betting fans. There's a carryover of more than $133,000 that could go up to a million dollars! Also, I've been told that some Diamond Club subscribers (the Del Mar fans card), have receive some vouchers that can be cashed today for some money.

Hello everyone,

WOW! Just when you think that Opening Day at Del Mar can't get better, it actually does! If feels like it was also breaking record day.

This time, 47,339 people were part of this crazy, fun and very crowed place. More than $14.2 million were bet yesterday, one million more than last year.

 The first race was won by women. Jockey Chantal Sutherland and trainer Kristin Mulhall took the first win at Del Mar, being this the first time for her to win on any Opening Day at this track. Congratulations to both!

   On the winning standings, only two jockeys got two winning races yesterday (Rafael Bejarano and Martin Garcia), the rest of the races was pretty wide open, giving bettors a couple of nice surprises on the payouts.

   As usual, before the races started, the place was full, specially the paddock area; somehow, the fans keep coming and coming and they were able to enjoy the races, win some money and a have couple of drinks.

   For it's 75th season, is looking great!

   Unfortunately, not only drunk people getting on fights and things getting lost were the only bad things that happened. PLAYFUL COUNCIL broke his front leg while running on the backstretch and had to be euthanized.
